Hammond Picks Up Times-Free Press Endorsement!

August 5, 2008

I was thrilled to receive the endorsement from the Chattanooga Times Free-Press!

From the Times:
“Mr. Hammond’s broad experience as a police training officer as well as chief deputy stands out among the present candidates. We endorse Mr. Hammond for election as sheriff.”

And from the Free-Press:
“A man of excellent Christian character, practical experience in the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and in a wide variety of other law enforcement and educational services, Jim Hammond seems to be exactly the kind of man who is very much needed for the important responsibilities as sheriff of Hamilton County.”

Election Day:
I can’t stress enough, how important it is for you to vote on Election Day, August the 7th. Jeanie and I appreciate all of the support from each and every one you during this campaign. There are only a few days left, so call your friends and family and let them know that we need all the turn-out we can get this Thursday!

Sincerely,

Early Voting is Underway!

July 18, 2008

Jeanie and I kicked off early voting by casting our ballots this morning surrounded by many of our supporters.  I encourage everyone to go vote as soon as you can.  Early voting ends August 2, so get out to one of the polling places and cast your vote!  Here are some maps to the three early voting locations:

Northgate Mall near TJ Maxx
Brainerd Recreation Center at 1010 N. Moore Road
Election Commission Office on River Terminal Road off Amnicola Highway

As election day grows increasingly nearer, we need more volunteers to help phone, go door-to-door, etc.  There is a place for you to get involved.  Click here to find a place to help.

I’d like to thank everyone that came out to Get Out the Vote at the Coker Barn on Tuesday night!   More than 400 supporters packed the farm to enjoy ice cream, cookies and and lemonade.  We had a wonderful time of fellowship and I enjoyed getting to meet all of the new faces in attendance.  The Coker’s really know how to make you feel welcome, and much appreciation goes to them for putting on such a great event.

There are many more events planned and being planned between now and August 7!  Check back to see what event you can attend.

I also want to thank the Southeast Tennessee Political Action Committee for its endorsement of me for Hamilton County Sheriff. The SETPAC forum was a great opportunity for me to explain my positions on the issues that are so important to every citizen in the county. If you would like to read in more detail where I stand on Safe Homes, Safe Schools, Safe Streets and Safe Public Places, click on the Q&A section of the website.

Right now, I have two television appearances on the schedule: July 25 on WTCI, Channel 45, at 10pm; and then July 31 on Channel 3 during the 6 a.m. hour of Eyewitness News Today.

June Is Upon Us

June 2, 2008

We as a campaign have accomplished a lot in the last five weeks. The headquarters is now up and running. The Grand Opening was held on May 8th and was a huge success. We had over 400 people in attendance even with threats of tornado warnings.

We also participated in the Red Bank Parade on Saturday, May 10th. We were worried that our tee shirts would not be ready but thanks to a great vendor we were dressed to kill in our red & blue “Jim Hammond for Sheriff” shirts still warm off the press.

Red Bank Parade
Our yard and 3×4 signs are in and have been flying out the door. Yesterday a volunteer came in and took the last of our 3×4’s. We have already re-ordered and expect our supply to be replenished by the middle of next week. The yard sign supply is still ample, but you will need to contact the headquarters to reserve yours.

Yay! We have bumper stickers. This is a special election and our time period to get organized has been so short. Our vendors have been so understanding working with our tight schedule. You can come by to pick some up or call us and we will mail them to you.

On a sad note we need to remember Larry Frazier and his family. Larry’s brother-in-law passed away last week. Larry is one of our volunteers here on staff at the headquarters.

This weekend will be the last for our volunteers to weed their garden, work on their tans, and rest up. Keep your eye out for red & blue “Jim Hammond for Sheriff” tee shirts in your neighborhood.

Remember the Hamilton County Republican Women’s picnic tonight at Greenway Farms @ 6:00. I look forward to meeting some new people. Also, the Tennessee Valley Republican Women are having their picnic tomorrow night at the Tennessee Riverpark’s West Pavillion. I hope to see you all there.
More updates coming.

Welcome!

May 30, 2008

Welcome to my personal campaign blog. Here you will find continually updated postings of campaign news, information on upcoming events, and even my thoughts on news from the day. Through this, I hope to open up another line of communication and allow you to get to know me on a more personal basis.

Election Day is Thursday, August 7. That’s about the same time many of you will want to squeeze off one last, long weekend vacation before school starts again.

So let me remind you about Early Voting. It starts July 18 and goes through August 2, just 8 weeks away. The Hamilton County Election Commission has set the locations for Early Voting:

Northgate Mall near TJ Maxx
Brainerd Recreation Center at 1010 N. Moore Road
Election Commission Office on River Terminal Road off Amnicola Highway

So jot down Early Voting on your calendar, July 18 through August 2.

The campaign still needs lots of volunteers. Click here to see how you can join the campaign and check out the video from the grand opening of the Campaign Headquarters.

We have two big upcoming campaign events. Come out for the Fish Fry in Soddy Daisy tomorrow, May 31, from 1-5 p.m. hosted by Bobby Hargis. This will be a great time of community fellowship. At 6 p.m. on Monday, June 2, The Hamilton County Republican Women will be having their annual picnic at the Greenway Farms off of Hamill Rd. in Hixson at 6 p.m. I look forward to getting to meet you all at these events. Check back here or on the events page of the website to see where I’ll be next.

I hope you will come back and see me. There will always be something new on here, and as we get closer to August 7, there will be much more to talk about.
